BfS is monitoring radiation exposure in Germany from a network of measuring stations. The IT system makes use of JobScheduler to orchestrate the processes of data collection, evaluation, visualization and analysis. BfS is running an open source stack of software components in a geo-redundant high-availability environment for fully automated processing of measurement data. Scheduling tasks include to:

• import measurement data to a central database,
• run processes for evaluation and graphical representation of measurement data,
• transfer result files by use of YADE to BfS laboratories for analysis.

City of 's-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands

The JobScheduler was implemented for the City of 's-Hertogenbosch to organize the workflow within a network of 141 clients (Linux). JobScheduler has also replaced the Puppet Software (automated distribution of software and software updates) application that had previously been used for this task.

The fail safe and load balanced JobScheduler architecture is designed with three levels: a JobScheduler Supervisor (Windows) handles the configurations, with any configuration changes being sent by the Supervisor to three Master JobSchedulers. The Master JobSchedulers in turn run a series of job chains that send commands via SSH to execute programs and database scripts on 141 clients.

JobScheduler is the scheduler for the DataSwitch (DSW) application, which was developed by SOS GmbH for Schering AG in 2003. After the merger with Bayer AG (Leverkusen) DataSwitch was continued and extended.

DataSwitch is an ETL tool, which is used to collect (by pull principle) daily, weekly and monthly data for all local and global material regarding actual stocks, daily warehouse transactions and weekly/monthly prices from all (120+) subsidiaries of the Bayer Healthcare division worldwide. The data is deployed on a daily basis to various IT-Systems, e.g. R/3-ERP, SAP/APO, different SAP/BW-Systems and others.

The business processes supported by DSW are "global inventory management", "consignment accounting" and "supply chain planning". DataSwitch supports simple csv- or fixed-record-format-data files, Excel-files, his own XML format and SAP IDocs. The data is validated, consolidated and distributed asynchronously to the subscribing systems.

Print and Publishing. JobScheduler uses the YADE Managed File Transfer Solution to carry out extensive file transfer operations. The architecture is such that a Master JobScheduler is implemented to receive orders for the transfer of incoming files. In addition, about 100 JobSchedulers on different servers monitor the directories that receive the incoming files. Once files have arrived these JobSchedulers generate transfer orders that are then sent to the Master JobScheduler. This in turn forwards file transfer instructions to YADE . A  further JobScheduler has been configured as a Supervisor to implement the remote configuration of the other JobSchedulers.

Prior to implementing JobScheduler, Honey Baked used a combination of SQL Jobs, and Microsoft Tasks Scheduler to handle running of scheduled tasks. This method made it difficult to monitor and manage, but now with JobScheduler, there is a single plane of glass that shows all schedules, jobs and what is currently running. Makes it very easy to see when jobs are stuck or have errors, speeding resolution time.

Prior to JobScheduler implementation, if a machine that had tasks scheduled on it went down for any reason, tasks had to be manually rescheduled on other machines, now with “Process Classes” tasks, just run on a different machine, bypassing the one that is offline.

Honey Baked has a significate number of tasks that run every couple of minutes all day long, previously these tasks would all line up and cause performance spikes on the database back-end. Now with JobScheduler and the Finish-To-Start scheduling tasks start more randomly spreading out the spikes. Email alerting on failing, erroring, or long running tasks has reduced the amount of time spent monitoring tasks, as now we don’t have to manually look for these issues.

JobScheduler has brought Enterprise Level task scheduling to Honey Baked at a very reasonable price.
